SHORT TERM PROGRAMS

Short term programs last between 2 to 8 weeks and are held in December, January, May, June, or July. These courses are subject to enrollment and generally require a minimum of 4 to 6 students to open a course. If you are interested in a program, please submit an interest form so that we can contact you with potential program dates. Each course fee includes lodging, transportation, transcripts for academic credit, two meals per day, academic activities, cultural activities (1-2 per week), tourism activities (2 or more per program), pre-departure and in-country orientations, and 24-hour in-country support.

 

URBAN AND RURAL PHOTOGRAPHY
(3 CREDITS)

2 weeks $1950 - January

In this course, students will learn to document different natural and urban Costa Rican spaces through various technique and conceptualizations. In each outing, students will cover a selected topic: panoramic photography, HDR, time-lapse, and many others. The structure of the course is 80% practice and 20% theory.


Basic knowledge of photography and a sense of adventure are required.

HEALTHY LIFESTYLES

(3 CREDITS)

2 weeks $1950 - January
4 weeks $3250 - May, June, July

This course prepares students to obtain a deeper understanding and appreciation for the topics of a healthy lifestyle, such as exercise, nutrition, stress management, and more. It focuses on the comprehensive approach through the determinants of health and the application to their own lifestyles.

This course is taught through active classes, discussion sessions, research projects, and simulations, where the student can apply theory to practice.

SPANISH IMMERSION AND AFRO-COSTA RICAN IDENTITY (6 CREDITS)

4 weeks $3950

During this intense and exciting 4-week course, students will be immersed in the Spanish language while simultaneously learning about the Afro-Costa Rican identity through a number of interactive tours, guest lectures, and a one-week trip to Limon where students will participate in a service project in the local community.

This course is filled with excitement, challenges, and full immersion in the beautiful languages and cultures of Costa Rica. The course is taught through interactive lecture & practice, site visits, tourism, cultural experiences, and presentations.

LATIN AMERICAN ART HISTORY & CULTURE
(3 CREDITS)

2 weeks $1950 - January
4 weeks $3250 - May, June, July

This course prepares students to obtain a deeper understanding and appreciation of Latin American culture and art by examining the influences of history on both, such as conquests of the territories; main pre-Hispanic civilizations and their structures and influence; prominent figures throughout history; political, economic and social diversities; and religion. 


This course is taught through interactive lecture, discussion sessions, research projects, case analysis and site visits, where the student can apply theory to practice. This course will develop students’ critical thinking skills to understand Latin America in different contexts.
